amplify

ANNOUNCEMENT: amplify is now available to watch in full digitally, here!

The resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement across the globe has served as a catalyst for difficult conversations about race in many cities, including Sudbury, Ontario, a predominantly white town. This has led many individuals, some for the first time, to question their role and complicity in systematic racism–a cycle of inequality that permeates society and affects the lives of many racialized communities. Amplify is a short documentary featuring three black women and Sudbury residents who share their lived experiences and thoughts in relation to the current political climate, racial inequality, and social justice. Filmed in August of 2020. ** Full Credits director & producer Isak Vaillancourt thank you to Josephine Suorineni-Zaghe Shana Calixte Sonia Ekiyor-Katimi made possible by Up Here festival guest curator Ra’anaa Brown cinematographer Shawn Kosmerly editor Riley McEwen blm sudbury protest images James Adetoyese-Olagunju music "Mystery Soundscape" by GerrlichStudios (Music Standard License, audiojungle) "Neoclassical Tension" by Matteo Tronchin (Music Standard License, audiojungle) "Crescent Moon" by Holiday on the Moon (Subscription License, soundstripe) "Interlude" by Matt Wigton (Subscription License, soundstripe) "The Calm" by Stephen Keech (Subscription License, soundstripe) "The Chapel Of Love" by Tide Electric (Subscription License, soundstripe) "Still Waters" by Greater Still (Subscription License, soundstripe) news footage CityNews (2020) Hate crimes, and groups behind them, on the rise: expert euronews (2017) Québec endeuillé par une fusillade The National (2020) Hate-motivated crimes in Canada Sudbury.com (2017, 2020) Police investigating after minnow lake resident hangs swastika-adorned Canada flag Rally against racism draws hundreds in Sudbury Sudburians hold candlelight vigil for victims of Quebec City mosque attack BLM june19 CBC News (2020) Confronting systemic racism in Canada CTV News (2020) Protest in Sudbury calling for racial justice CBC Radio (2019) A group of Laurentian University students is getting some major support to combat racism Great Big Story (2020) Black Lives Matter Protests Around the World Up Here Urban Art + Music Festival In affiliation with Black Lives Matter Sudbury
